While I was taking a shower today—feeling pretty empty here in South Dakota with winter approaching, still unemployed, and chasing every opportunity I can—God downloaded something into my spirit.
Lately I’ve been safari surfing for things to buy. Why? Because I want a dopamine hit… or maybe I think buying something will fill the hole inside me that I’ve been trying to close.
Then it hit me: Bro, you literally just bought the things you wanted—new headphones, computer speakers, a Bluetooth keyboard, a chest pack.
Is it working?
Do you feel better?
I had to be honest with myself. The answer was no. So buying more stuff isn’t going to fix what’s going on inside me.
So… what will?
For most of my life, I’ve believed that “I need a job to provide.” But as I kept thinking in the shower, I went a little deeper.
Do I really need a job to provide?
Because right now, I don’t have a job—and yet, we still have provision.
So then what is it?
Is it about the act of providing as a man?
Or is it actually about the stewardship and management of my heart, mind, spirit, actions, and resources?
God has been speaking to me, saying, “Man, I love you. And what I want for you is a hundred times, a billion times—infinitely better than anything you could ever imagine or fathom.”

One thing I’ve learned about God—especially from spending so much time in His Word—is that He desires total devotion. He wants a heart and mind continually turned toward Him, because when you’re aligned with Him, He will lead and guide you in the right direction.
I’ve also realized that God is deeply committed to purifying His children. He will do whatever it takes to cleanse us. He is a good God—and real goodness includes justice. That means He corrects the mistakes we make, especially the ones that will eventually destroy the life He intended for us. But at the end of the day, it’s still our choice. We have to choose His way, which is almost always the opposite of whatever simply feels good in the moment.
And every day, as I read and remember His Word, I’m understanding more and more what it means to present my body as a living sacrifice, just like Romans 12:1 says:
“I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship.” — Romans 12:1 (ESV)
After I got out of the shower today, I felt compelled to write this—not because these words come from me, but because God put them on my heart. I know there are many people out there searching for purpose, direction, and meaning. If that’s you, keep reading. This is for you.
Your Purpose Is Already Inside You
Here’s the truth God showed me:
Your purpose isn’t something you find—it’s something you uncover.
It’s been inside of you from the beginning.
It’s just been dormant… buried… suffocated under distractions, habits, false identities, and everything that pretends to be purpose but actually steals it.
You can’t “find” what was never lost.
Your God-given purpose has been there the whole time, waiting for you to wake it up.
Think about the things you’ve always wanted to do:
- write a book
- play an instrument
- scale a mountain
- start a business
- create something meaningful
Those desires aren’t random. God placed them in you.
“For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.”
— Ephesians 2:10 (ESV)
God Gave You a Gift — Now Steward It
Each of us has a unique gift. And when we focus on that gift, surrender it to God, and work to develop it with Him, something powerful happens:
God moves. He guides. He parts seas.
Not just for us—but to encourage and uplift the people around us.
Why?
Because we are created in God’s image (Genesis 1:27), and that means we were designed with the desire and ability to create. So the worst thing we can do is hide the light God put inside us.
“You are the light of the world… let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.”
— Matthew 5:14–16 (ESV)
Submit your gift to God.
Let Him refine it, shape it, breathe on it.
And then let it shine.
Because here’s the hard truth:
The longer you wait to produce, the more you reduce what God placed in you.
(Proverbs 13:4)
The Word Is Your Fuel
But listen carefully—none of this matters if you’re not spending time in the Word of God.
This blog post means nothing if you don’t sit with God yourself.
And I don’t just mean quickly glancing at a verse on your phone.
I’m talking about a paper Bible, a pen, and a notebook. Devices distract us; the Word anchors us.
Ask the Holy Spirit to open your understanding.
“But the Helper, the Holy Spirit… will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you.”
— John 14:26 (ESV)
“Open my eyes, that I may behold wondrous things out of your law.”
— Psalm 119:18 (ESV)
That is where purpose comes alive.
Start Now — Not Later
Don’t wait.
Don’t tell yourself “one day.”
Don’t let procrastination choke the purpose inside you.
“Look carefully then how you walk… making the best use of the time, because the days are evil.”
— Ephesians 5:15–16 (ESV)
Start today.
Start small if you need to.
But start.
Because God didn’t put a purpose inside you so it could stay buried.
He put it there so it could shine.
And someone out there is waiting for the light God placed in you.

Action Steps
1. Pray and spend time in the Word.
Start by grounding yourself in God’s presence. Open your Bible, ask the Holy Spirit to speak, and let God shape your focus.
2. Write down three things God has blessed you with — especially the natural gifts you love doing.
These are often the seeds of your purpose.
3. Choose ONE and start working on it today.
Not tomorrow. Not later. Now. Take the first step God is calling you to take.
Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for this wonderful revelation today. Thank You that You never leave us or forsake us, and that You’ve already given us everything we try to search for in things that can never satisfy us. Help us shift our focus back to You. Help us take an honest audit of the gifts You’ve placed inside us, and give us the discipline to nurture, develop, and grow them. In the mighty name of Yeshua, AMEN!
